The Carrollton Greenbelt

To contribute thru CFWG CLICK HERE and select Carrollton Greenbelt Project Fund from the pulldown menu.

The first section of The Carrollton Greenbelt follows Buffalo Creek. A parking area has been built at the trail head, and two pavilions are in place for trail users.
Please help any way you can! If we had $1 for every time a person said "I'd ride my bicycle more if I had a better place to ride" while chatting with us in our store, the Carrollton Greenbelt Project would already be funded in full!

Ok, so while that might be a bit of an exaggeration, there is significant local interest in having a paved path facility in Carroll County and Perpetual Motion Bicycles, Inc. wanted to help make that dream a reality for our community. So, while owner Mikki Griffin was participating in the March 2003 National Bike Summit in Washington, DC with the North Georgia Bicycle Dealers Association (NGBDA), she discovered that the City of Carrollton's Greenspace agenda might qualify as a Federal High Priority Project and thus the Carrollton Greenbelt Project was born.

Representative Phil Gingrey presented the Carrollton Greenbelt Project to Congress in the Federal Transportation Bill just a few days later. Suddenly, with the support of Representative Mac Collins, Senator Zell Miller, and Senator Saxby Chambliss, the City of Carrollton was awarded its first Federal Transportaion Fund Allocation. The Carrollton Greenbelt has been the pet project of Perpetual Motion Bicycles, Inc. ever since!

In the years subsequent to her first DC visit, Mikki assisted the City of Carrollton in securing GDOT Transportation Enhancement money for the project as well. Add the Federal HPP and State TE awards to the original seed money procured from Georgia Greenspace Acquisition Fund Grant, the Land and Water Conservation Funds, and the City of Carrollton matching monies, and that brings the government funding total to just over $1 million dollars.

The entire Carrollton Community has been very supportive in raising the required funds to develop the Carrollton Greenbelt Project. Groups such as the Citizens of Georgia Power, the Carrollton Rotary Club , and the many sponsors of the 2008 West Georgia 100 Bicycle Ride have been instrumental in raising almost $8,000 to date. Plus, in November 2008 citizens voted in the SPLOST tax, which included the Greenbelt Project in its list of beneficiaries.

We are excited to announce that in 2008 The Alice Richards Foundation contributed a million dollars to the Greenbelt, contingent on the first phase completing construction.

Notably, the Carrollton Greenbelt Project received national recognition from Mikki's Bike Summit participation when Bikes Belong, a private advocacy group out of Colorado, granted this project $7500.

The Community Foundation of West Georgia has partnered with us to assist in processing contributions for this multi-million dollar project. Most donations made to the Carrollton Greenbelt Project through the CFWG website qualify for tax deductible status*. If you or your business are interested in supporting the Carrollton Greenbelt Project, please complete the form on this page: Click here and select Carrollton Greenbelt Project Fund from the pulldown menu.
*As always, check with your accountant to confirm tax deductibility.

The city is waiting for the GDOT to approve an environmental impact study before construction can begin.

Carrollton will become known as the town with the bicycle trail, and visitors will flock in and the quality of life for our citizens will be elevated in many ways. The Carrollton Greenbelt IS the future of this community. Let's keep the wheel rolling!
